SHELTER

The sun-drenched shores of Southern California set the stage for this sexy and romantic story of love, family and finding your way among the waves.
Zach is a year out of highschool and already struggling to free himself from a hopeless life. Stuck in a dead-end job at a diner and forced to play father figure to his nephew Cody (while needy mother Jeanne is perpetually caught up in her own relationship drama), he can barely maintain a connectionwith his on-again, off-again girlfriend. With no time to pursue his dream of becoming an artist, his only fulfilled passion is surfing; a common activity for a young man raised in the sleepy, working-class beach town of San Pedro, but for Zach it’s not just a diversion – it’s his only escape.
Everything changes when Zach reconnects with Shaun (Brad Rowe of BILLY’S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS). A writer and the gay older brother of Zach’s best friend, Shaun moves back to town to get over a recent breakup. He soon becomes Zach’s surfing buddy and confidant, encouraging him to rekindle his dream of attending art school. As Zach finds himself falling in love with Shaun, he struggles to reconcile his own desires with the needs of his family.
Filled with atmospheric photography, a pitch-perfect emo soundtrack and plenty of hot guys in wet suits, SHELTER is a gorgeous and seductive film that captures the restlessness of adolescence, the magic of newfound love and the bonds of family. SHELTER marks the feature directorial debut of Jonah Markowitz, writer-director of acclaimed short films I LEFT ME and HUNG UP. Already racking up awards at festivals around the world, this must-see film is an accomplished and impressive start for a rising star in queer filmmaking.
